KLANG: MIC Youth chief S.A. Vignes-waran resigned from the party yesterday with a threat to open a Pandora's box on happenings within the party.

His decision to quit came after weeks of speculation on his position following a falling out with party chief Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

Vigneswaran, once the blue-eyed boy of the party supremo, said the decision to resign came in light of efforts from the party leadership to force him to relinquish his Youth chief post.

1 Jul - Sodomy claims against Anwar Ibrahim could actually galvanise support for the charismatic opposition leader, analysts say, due to the widespread belief they are politically motivated.

The allegations, which Anwar says are a plot to prevent him from seizing power, are a re-run of events of 1998 when he was sacked as deputy prime minister and jailed for six years on sodomy and corruption counts.

Anwar fled to the Turkish embassy in dramatic scenes over the weekend, saying he feared a government assassination attempt after being hit with "fabricated" new accusations by a 23-year-old male aide.

Jun 30: Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim walked out of the Turkish embassy in Kuala Lumpur at 6.45pm today where he took refuge after being hit with sodomy accusations.

He told journalists that he had decided to leave after getting assurances for his safety from three ministers - Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar, Foreign Minister Rais Yatim and Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak.

"I've decided to leave after getting assurances from the statements of the foreign minister, the home minister and the deputy prime minister," said a rather fresh-looking Anwar.

To quell restlessness over his own position Abdullah had announced recently that Najib and he had come to an agreement to a smooth handing-over “when the right time comes.” Both did not say when this could be.

What appeared to be the story of the year was buried by loquacious front page treatment of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s tabling of the mid-term review of the Ninth Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (26 June).

Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today strongly dismissed claims that he was involved in a conspiracy to ruin PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim's political career.


He said that he was not involved in the police report lodged by Anwar's aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan in which the latter claimed to be sodomised by Anwar.

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 Jun (Hrkh) - Tindakan Speaker Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Dato' Haji Pandikar Amin Mulia membenarkan Timbalan Perdana Menteri, Dato' Seri Najib Razak membentangkan ucapan sokongan Penilaian Separuh Penggal Rancangan Malaysia Ke-9 (RMK9) yang dikemukakan Perdana Menteri, Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi minggu lepas, telah menyebabkan ahli-ahli parlimen Pakatan Rakyat tidak berpuas hati.

Mereka lantas bangkit mengemukakan bantahan serta memohon penjelasan Pandikar atas kebenaran yang diberikan kepada Najib bagi menghuraikan hal tersebut.
